Totally Desperate Mom Review

totally desperate momLet me introduce you to Wendy Hagen aka Wendy Cox. You may recognize her from The New Lassie or guest roles on The Wonder Years and Growing Pains. You may also recognize her from her totally awesome blog Tales from the Motherhood.

I came across her blog about a year ago and was hooked from day one. She is an amazing mother and wife with totally cute children. What really made her stand out to me besides her weekly posts from her Hollywood days is that she gives it to us straight up. She does not sugar coat this motherhood life. Of course I was going to become a faithful reader of someone who is real and just puts it out there. My kind of girl 😉

Then I found out she was writing a book called Totally Desperate Mom. I had to get my hands on it and read it. Before even knowing anything else about it I knew it would be a book I would enjoy reading. I was not disappointed.

I will give a little warning up front. Not everyone is religious. I am not what I would call a religious person. Wendy is religious. The great thing about her though is she does not force her beliefs on anyone. The book does have religious mentions in it as God does play a role in her life. However it is not overwhelming and so even the non religious person will still enjoy the book and not be overran by religion.

About Totally Desperate Mom

Starting from the delusion-filled journey into motherhood and progressing through the various stages that take place in the preschool years, Totally Desperate Mom is a no-holds-barred, comical look at motherhood from a mom in the trenches. Wendy offers biblical encouragement and practical tips for taking care of mom emotionally, physically, spiritually and in the marriage.

I read the book in one night and could not stop laughing. I am not talking a giggle or chuckle, I am talking full out laughing out loud. I am sure I was quite the site to Tobei. I even ended up reading parts of the book to him because it was too funny not to share.

One story that she shares in the book she also shared on her blog. If you have a few moments go watch the video at When Your Husband Calls You Fat. If you can’t laugh at that then I don’t think we can remain friends.  This story is just one of many as she touches on everything us moms deal with from Pregnancy to new borns and on to the as I call them “Trying Threes”. This book is seriously a must for any mom and/or mom to be. Forget all those what to expect book and how to books. You need to read Totally Desperate Mom for the real, honest and comical look at motherhood. Make sure you read the letter at the end of the book as well this is where the tears came. I can blame the pregnancy hormones right?

One of my most precious memories of my boys are when they were really little and we would go for walks “in the woods” and look for dinosaurs.
