Reality of Blissdom Canada For Moms

This past week-end I had the honour of being a community leader at Blissdom Canada. As a mom I was sad to be leaving my kids. In fact it was my first time leaving Little Brother. At the same time I was so excited to leave the kids.

No “mommy, mommy, mommy”. No expectation of anyone for me to feed them at least 3 times a day. I could go to the bathroom in peace. And the best part, I could sleep in.

In fact I was super excited to have Pam Nease Sleep Sense™ Consultant sponsoring my hotel portion. I was like “Hey Pam, now that you got Little Brother sleeping through the night. How about helping me sleep at Blissdom Canada and paying my hotel bill”. In fact I believe that is exactly what I said to her. Good thing we have that friendship aspect going on as that is one lousy pitch to a business.

Well let me tell you. If you plan to go to Blissdom Canada and get all that beauty rest and quiet time your kids deprive you of it is NOT going to happen.

Every day involved staying up to the wee hours talking with friends and being back up at 7am for more socializing and learning. In fact I talked so much this week-end I barely have a voice now.

Peeing in peace, nope conversations still happening through bathroom doors.

The reality of Blissdom Canada for moms is that you will get little sleep and you will actually not want your privacy. Only once a year do I get to get together with my awesome blogging buddies from across Canada and the week-end goes by faster than the speed of light.

I came home with no voice, exhausted and wanted nothing more than a hug from my family then to crawl into my bed.

It was worth every moment and every squeak of my voice. I reconnected with old friends, made wicked new friends and have memories I will always cherish.

Thanks Pam for trying to help me sleep at Blissdom Canada. Though it did not work I know I can sleep now since your program has helped me achieve having a sleeping baby.

  1. Wasn’t it crazy? I had visions of sleeping in, chilling out, and perhaps getting a massage at the spa. Instead I was constantly on the go, hardly slept at all, and used my only chunk of spare time to go for a run. I am spectacularly tired, but basking in the glow of the weekend. It was fantastic!

  2. So true! I went to bed as soon as I got home yesterday afternoon and slept until almost noon today. Utterly exhausted, but utterly happily :)

    • I totally thought I would nap on the ride home. Ended up talking the whole time then as well. It was the week-end I couldn’t shut up lol.

  3. Sounds super busy. It’s like needing a vacation from your vacation. Even though it wasn’t possible for me to go this year, I’m jealous of those who did.

  4. Nolie!
It sounds like you had a fantastic time! I am so glad and thrilled that I was your Hotel Sponsor … even though you did not get a lot of shut eye. ;)

    • It was worth every minute of it though. I did escape to my room a few times though with my roomies to just have some quiet time and put our feet up.

  5. I’m glad you had a good time! I have only been to one conference and it was only a one-day gig and I remember how tired I was after just one day…….

  6. It’s always a nice thought to think we’ll sleep when away right? I tossed and turned (worse the first night than the second) and stayed up way too late. But, having a mental break, that many laughs and a shower on my own was pretty sweet. Great seeing you!

  7. This conference was my first time away from my 2 month old. I only came for the day, but it was still weird to leave my kids behind and only interact with adults all day. Not exactly peaceful, but lots of fun!

  8. My roomie FOLLOWED me into the bathroom. We skipped over a lot of getting-to-know you formalities. And sleep–HA. You’re absolutely right. I sleep more in one night at home than I did at Blissdom all weekend.

Glad you had a good time. Me, too. :)

    • OK mine didn’t follow me in at least LMAO oh yes we were queens of hey we have known each other forever right let’s get changed. There is no time for taking turns in bathroom at Blissdom Canada.

  9. I’m so happy to be one of those new friends you were talking about! Whether I’m wicked or not will be up to you :D I’m so glad I got to meet you and even happier that we got past our first interaction/awkward handshakehighfive!

    • I will put you in the wicked side. Consider yourself lucky. ;) That high five thing was pretty awesome. Tobei had a good laugh at us when I told him about it.

  10. Ha! I lost my voice on Friday and barely had it back on Saturday. But if the worst side effect of this is that we all come home with flaming laryngitis from talking too much, I’ll take it :)
