Finally, school is out and the kids are free! No homework, no sitting in class all day, but also nothing to do. Sometimes it’s hard to stay busy during the long days of summer, but there are tons of ways to keep the kids busy and not let boredom get the best of them! There’s a lot of different options to keep kids busy, whether they’re in elementary, middle, or high school.
Older kids are usually a little easier because some of them can drive and entertain themselves fairly easy. However, that doesn’t exclude them from getting bored during summer. Look around your area for some summer sports that they can participate in. For kids that are old enough to work, lifeguarding is a great way to spend the summer and earn a little extra fun money for them!
Middle school aged kids.
Middle school aged kids are at the age where they’re like huge sponges. They’re just absorbing everything! This is a great age to get them to science museums, art museums, history museums, and places that have interactive exhibits. There’s so much to be learned at places like that and they usually have great deals during the summer for kids!
Another good idea for middle school aged kids is their own (moderated and supervised by a parent) YouTube channel, where they can make fun videos doing experiments or their own music videos or whatever they want. Kids really love doing this!
Elementary school aged kids.
Crafts are huge for this age! Kids love to get messy and paint and make things! It’s also great for parents because they get some really great keepsakes out of the crafty projects the kids do. Things like making your own play dough, making “flubber”, and painting are great projects for younger kids.
Ultimately, you have to find things to keep your kids busy that interest them, so it’s different for every child. Most kids really enjoy crafts and museums because they’re interactive and they get to spend the majority of the day interacting. Summer is a great time for kids to have fun without worrying if they’re being graded on it!
