Day 10 – Set Up Alerts To Monitor What Is Happening In Your Niche
Today we were supposed to learn about using Google Alerts to see what is going on in your Niche or anything else you want to keep up on. Lucky for me I have already been using Google Alerts. I use it to monitor use of my URL and blog name.
I did go a step furthur today however. I set up to be notified on Blissdom Canada, Blogging Tips, Blogging Advice and WordPress Plugins. I know kind of boring and not really related to my niche. However what is my niche? Oh yes my niche is life. So I figure using alerts for anything that I want to be in the know about is good enough for me.
It’s not actually about having to monitor a certain thing. It’s about using this tool to have instant access to up to the moment information on what interests you. I think it is a pretty neat little tool as long as you don’t go overboard with it.
One other thing I did do however is I was receiving my alerts by e-mail. It was kind of annoying. I now have them given to me via feeds in my Google Reader. I also set up my reader to have a folder for all alerts and I put all those feeds in that folder.
So I am interested. What is your niche and what kind of alerts did you or would you set up to monitor?

I used to get a ton of google alerts and the number of emails really overwhelmed me. Since my niche is cleaning and organizing the updates can become quite numerous. The google reader idea is a good one though so I’ll have to check that out. Thanks for the tip!

I am on 24 hours of having it delivered to me as a feed and it is 100% nicer. I have had the book for awhile now but had no incentive to go through it. No time. Now having a group to do it with though I find the time to at least overview the day we are working on.

Not much for Blissdom Canada yet but we are still waiting for them to release the speakers, agenda all that other fun stuff. I hope they release more info soon.
